Lesson Policy:
Tuition is due at the first week of each month. Payments can be made in cash (preferable), Zelle ([email protected]), or Venmo (@Alexis-Ross-613).
Students are encouraged to take lessons during the summer, but the number of lessons is dependent upon the student. I require at least 8 weeks of lessons during the summer months (June, July and August) to retain knowledge learned during the school year. I cannot run a business when clients decide to take off for 3 straight months and expect a spot to be held for them in the fall. If the student is available for only a few weeks of lessons, then the student can take longer lessons for the weeks that s/he is available before leaving/after coming home from vacation.
Cancellation Policy:
Please give me AS MUCH notice as possible for a time change. I allow make-ups for lessons, but not refunds. Students must commit to lessons weekly.
If a student misses a lesson without giving the teacher 24-hour notice (i.e., a student forgets to come to the lesson or has a last minute extra curricular activity conflict), there will be no make-up allowed. If the student was too sick to attend school, notify me before 9:00 AM and I will make up the lesson.
During the summer, vacation time can be taken as needed, and make-ups are not required. Between June 1 and August 31, of the 13 weeks, a mandatory 8 weeks of lessons are required. Payment must be made on 8 lessons to hold a spot for the Fall. If a student will frequently be out of town, we can simply do 45- or 60-minute lessons to make up for the missed weeks.
Practice
Piano lessons should be regarded as a subject in school. It requires daily study and practice. I generally suggest that beginner students practice 15 minutes per day, 4-5 days per week. As the student progresses in his/her studies, the practice time will need to increase between 30 minutes per day. It is always better to practice a little bit every day than to load all of the practice time into one or two days.
Repertoire
I will provide links to the music books needed for the lessons. I may also have the books on hand in the studio, and will let you know the cost when I give a student a new book. It can be included in the next month’s payment.
Piano Tuning
It is important to keep your piano maintained. An out of tune piano is not enjoyable to practice on, and may discourage the student from practicing. If you need the number of a piano tuner, I am more than happy to supply one. I highly recommend Paul Gunty, 847-870-8591.
If you decide that an acoustic piano is not the right step for you or your child, at the very least a student should have a full length piano of 88 weighted keys.
Scheduling and Availability
Scheduling is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. I do give priority to returning students wishing to keep the same time slots. The most popular time for lessons are after school and in the early evening around dinner time. These slots are taken very quickly. If you wish to have one of these time slots, you may be wait-listed.
